Below are samples of my character designs, finished styleframes, and a partial storyboard for a short film I directed entitled, 'Wound Up'. The soundtrack was created by Leonardo Velasquez composed of recordings I made - of the insides of rusty clocks, grinding against pavement, pounding, and metal coils. The audio was instrumental in building up the tension though repetitious beats and choruses along with the repetition of images and animated actions. The short was specifically about the anxiety of day to day life and the mechanism of routine. It made it's debut at the MOCINE Narrative Film Festival in New York, NY. All of the art was ink wash on paper and then composited digitally and animated in After Effects.

Yamasong is a short film produced by Heather Henson and directed by Sam K. Hale. It combines American Bunraku puppets with computer graphics and stop-motion animation. Set to the evocative sounds of taiko, koto, and throat singing from the band On Ensemble, YAMASONG chronicles the fantastic journey of a patchwork girl and tortoise warrior. For more info on upcoming film festivals, go here.

I collaborated on matte paintings/backgrounds with Sam for the film.

The uprising caused the water and earth to come crashing. There is a small silhouetted Portland in the lower right. It started as a simple pencil sketch and then was colored digitally.

Blackbird Pi Stationary Co. features cards, stationary and prints illustrated by Ashley Burke. The cards are sold online on Etsy and also in shops locally through out Portland including Obilation, Flutter, and Ecru.

These illustrations began as a series of ink wash sketches and then evolved into fields of color utilizing bright opaques and more subtle translucency.

The cards are made of 100% Recycled linen paper with a subtle two sided linen finish. The cards are made using sustainable raw materials and without the use of chlorine chemistry.
